She does WHAT?!?!

I’m not going to lie when I say that I do not watch reality TV (that much – eh hem) but I got suckered in to something other than The Jersey Shore, or Jerseylicious…..THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF NEW JERSEY!!!!

…one might think that I grew up in NJ…

So anyways….my BFF, who is a straight, young and attractive guy, told me that he RELIGIOUSLY watches the show since it aired. I couldn’t help but laugh, or take him seriously whatsoever but I figured I’d give it ONE TRY!! Well “one try” ended up steering me down the road to laughing/cringing/screaming at my TV in utter AMAZEMENT every single Monday since then.

This Monday the show was full of tattoos, screaming 9-year-olds in a hot pink limo, CAROLINE SHAVING HER FACE IN THE SHOWER and Hells Angels…

WAIT!!! back up, back up…. WHAT?!?!

YES!! Caroline admitted to not having ANY surgery but shaving her face with a BIC and moisturizer in the shower EVERY DAY as an exfoliator…I immediately had to ask Cindy if this really works and she couldn’t have agreed more! Don’t worry ladies this won’t make any peach fuzz or hair grow in darker…but will leave you with baby soft skin!!!

Razors up ladies!!! NO MORE BOTOX!!!!

It’s safe to say that the spring and summer are most people’s favorite time of year.  The weather is enjoyable, work-days don’t seem as crazy, and summer (3-day) weekends are practically the law in Manhattan. It’s like you don’t have a care in the world, right?

Not so fast. There are some problems with all this sunshine and warm weather: facial hair. Everyone has it, but no one talks about it.

During the winter, I would always cover unruly eyebrows with a hat, which I called the “the slouchy look”.  This is not recommended for summer weather (quite possibly not for winter either, as I don’t think I was fooling anyone).  It’s a good idea to take a quick look in a magnifying mirror to ensure everything is in place.  A secret tip: if you can’t get in with your fave eyebrow specialist: a bit of concealer will temporarily cover any strays.

Let me use this time to vent on one of my biggest pet peeves.  Do not, I repeat DO NOT, bleach your facial hair. I used to make this mistake all the time.  I wasn’t fooling anyone and ladies, you’re not either.  When that evening summer sun hits your face, and the hairs on your lip and cheeks sparkle in the light, it’s not O.K.  The hair needs to be removed. When your skin is darker than your hair – laser is not an option -  waxing is a great quick fix.   Also, a hair inhibitor, like completely bare’s Completely Smooth, will slow down the growth and density of your facial hair, giving you longer periods of time between waxes.  Simply apply it twice a day, under your favorite moisturizer and you’ll be blown away by the results!  This topic is so big that I was just featured in May’s Allure discussing it!  Check it out for tons of great tips.

Now go out, enjoy your summer, and remember, go to the beach, just don’t bleach! (so cheesy but I couldn’t resist!)

With so many options, how does one know what choice to make: Paper or plastic? Red or White? Cash or credit? Hair removal might not be one of the choices you’re faced with everyday, but with so many options, a little guidance is sometimes needed to light the way to a fuzz-free existence.

When is it best to shave? Wax? Or is using a depilatory your best bet? I’m not going to lie; the bane of my existence is shaving. I will go to great lengths to avoid it (ex-boyfriends-yeah sorry about that). Yes, I know if I just keep up with it, it wouldn’t get so bad. But seriously, who has the time to shave every single day? Ironically, my mother used to say the same thing about cleaning my room. Once I discovered waxing, I was hooked. Nothing puts a bounce in your step like a good Brazilian wax. For your bikini, it’s waxing over shaving, hands down. You’ll cut down on ingrowns, not to mention it lasts significantly longer.

Even though I’ve just spent the last few minutes whining about shaving, for the underarms it’s the simplest solution. Plus, it can be done at the last minute while feeding the dog and talking on the phone (not recommended, the scars will never go away).

Let’s talk facial hair. This one’s a tie. Waxing is super convenient, fast and affordable. You can also go with a depilatory lotion. Now get ready, before you wrinkle you nose with memories of Nair, I’m about to change your life: completely bare’s new depilatory “completely gone” is unlike any hair removal cream you know (available soon…). It smells amazing, and the aerosol can makes application super easy. It’s perfect for use everywhere, but I love it epically for facial hair because it doesn’t irritate your face.

After all this advice, I must confess, I do none of the above. HA! Working at completely bare spa comes with it’s perks, #1 being free laser hair removal. It’s so amazing that sometimes I search for stray hairs to treat. Even if I didn’t get it for free, I would still do it. Its changed my live. Girls and boys, this is the ultimate way to go. I don’t have to wax or shave ever! I can go on vacation and not even bring a razor. This is my little slice of heaven. What can I say? It’s the little things.

When I opened completely bare, I answered a need that plagued New Yorkers: permanent hair reduction, done in a chic setting by the experts in the industry.  I know, however, all you ladies in blog land might not be able to make it to CB to meet your hair removal needs. That’s why I’m providing some helpful tips and questions to ask when choosing an effective professional hair removal spa near you:

  1. Always ask if everyone at the spa have received treatments themselves. This includes the person that has answered the phone. You wouldn’t eat at a restaurant where the waiters haven’t tried the food.
  2. Ask how the treatment worked for them. Everyone is different and will respond to treatment differently. This may give you a good indication of how the process varies for each person.
  3. How long have they been in business, and how many locations do they have?
  4. Do they offer a complimentary test patch? You need to know how the treatment feels before you commit to it.
  5. Also ask how many laser services they perform per day. The more they do, they more experienced they are with different skin types. I like to use and example that everyone can relate to: when you get your hair done, each blow dryer is pretty much the same wherever you go. The difference is, one stylist has the talent and experience to give you a better blow out than the next.

Don’t ever feel like you’re asking too many questions. A service as personal as this is all about your comfort level.
