With four locations in New York, we do everything we can to get clients in at the last minute! If you don’t live near a completely bare spa, or need another service done, what do you do when you need to get a super fast appointment?

Having first hand experience on the other end of the phone, I’m here to offer some tips to get you squeezed in when it seems all but impossible. First and most important, nothing makes us want to do more for someone who is polite, understanding and flexible. When you are calling for an appointment at the last second, ask for the person’s name who answers the phone. Tell them you know how busy they must be, but you have just come back from a long extended trip. In a remote country. With no phones. And no calendars. Ask them if there is anything they can do to help you out. Be flexible with time, and with the esthetician that you see.

Tell them you’ll run in for your emergency trim already shampooed, and you’ll blow dry yourself. If they don’t have time for a full Brazilian wax, tell them you don’t mind being slotted in for whatever time they have. If at all possible, be in the neighborhood so that you can run in if they get a last minute cancellation.

If they truly are booked, break out the razor, slap some glossing creme on those split ends and some clear polish on your nails. Do not, I repeat, do NOT imply that the receptionist is lying, or purposely holding out on you. Remember: they are the ones who will call if something opens up :-)

My recent trip to LA taught me a few things:

Maxfield’s is the only place where a $1,000 bag is “sooo cheap” (ironically, it’s also where I briefly considered buying a $25,000 Hermes Birkin, then I landed back on earth and decided it might be better to send my children to private school), driving one block can take 45 minutes, and a Rick Owens jacket (even when thrown over $30 Gap jeans) can make you feel better about yourself around perfectly tanned and exquisitely dressed women.

You must be wondering what all this LA talk is about? Well, ladies and gentleman, if you’ve guessed that an LA move in on the horizon, you’ve guessed right.

I need your help though. As a New Yorker, California seems a bit foreign, to put it mildly. I looked at spaces in West Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Santa Monica, and I loved them all. Where are your favorite spots in LALA land? I would really appreciate the feed back because, after all you are the ones that’ll be getting completely bare there.

No, your eyes weren’t playing tricks on you, completely bare was on The City.  I posted earlier that this year, instead of a typical Christmas party, we decided to host a charity event benefiting New York Cares.  What I didn’t tell you was that it was being filmed for the show.  When we were still in the planning stages, Olivia, one of the stars and a good friend, suggested we have it taped for an episode of The City in order to raise more money for the charity.  I jumped at the opportunity.  It was insanely fun, and a great opportunity to bring awareness to a great cause.  Check out the clip below:

This season, it hardly feels like Christmas is coming. Each day is a more ominous prediction than the one before. With each of us fearing for our own future and well being, it’s hard to remember that this is the time to give. Whether it be the smallest, seemingly insignificant gesture, or something impacts another’s life in a momentous way, it makes a world full of uncertainty seem less scary.
Keeping the “tis better to give than receive” spirit in mind, we’ve decided to turn this year’s Christmas party into a charity event. Besides the usually flurry of shopping for a dress, hair appointments and manicures (though trust me, there is plenty of that), everyone attending our party is bringing a coat to donate to New York Cares, a charity that provides winter coats for the homeless. We’ve even organized an auction where celebrities have signed and donated coats to be sold on eBay, with all of the proceeds going to New York Cares. Please visit nycares.org for information.
